Burra Rays - Updates and Movements

The Burra Rays wish to announce some exciting player and coach movements as we head into the 2024 season. Currently, the top squad is hard at work, battling for selection for the Japan tour to contest the Nana Iro 7s (Feb 6 - 12), with more information to be released shortly containing the season outlook, training days and tours. For now through, we celebrate the below Rays and their achievements!

Keila Pouri-Lane signs for top Spanish club

Leading centre Keila Pouri-Lane has been rewarded for her strong season in 2023, signing a deal with leading Spanish women’s 15s club Universitario de Sevilla Club de Rugby. Since joining the Rays at the start of last season, Keila was a standout at the club, winning best back and being a mainstay in the 1s starting line-up.

We wish Keila all the best in her time overseas and look forward to having her back with the Rays once she returns at the end of the Spanish season.

Keila joins talented Rays duo Felicity Powdrell and Kieran Berry as our third player earning a contract overseas once being through the Rays system in 2023, with both Kieran and Floss enjoying their time in England for their respective clubs.

Chris Nay appointed NSW Waratahs Women’s 7s Head Coach

We also wish to congratulate our Head Coach, Chris Nay on his appointment to the NSW 7s Head Coach role with the Waratahs for the 2024 season. Chris has been the head coach of our program for over 5 years and has overseen almost all of the tournament successes enjoyed by BWRC. Chris has built the Rays program from the very start and his appointment is a testament to the strong results, culture and program he helped build at BWRC across the years. He recently was appointed Head Coach of the Solomon Islands men’s and women’s teams for the Oceania 7s and Pacific Games where both teams enjoyed their best results at international competition.

We congratulate Chris on his deserved appointment and have no doubts he will do an incredible job!

Angus McGrath steps in to fulfil Head Coach position

We are also delighted to announce that Angus McGrath will be stepping into the Head Coach position for 2024. Angus has delivered countless times for BWRC and his appointment is recognition of his outstanding and proven ability as a coach. Angus has led teams to championships at the Sydney 7s, Sri Lanka 7s, Dubai 7s, Solomon Island 7s and brings a refreshing energy to the Head Coach position at BWRC.

Gus is entering his 5th season as a coach in the program and we are very excited to be led by him across the 2024 season.
